To the photographer extremes of darkness and light present a challenge. That is, if one wants to level out the difference and present a blend of both – a compromise. But the human eye does not see such a situation as a compromise. Look one way and it is all dark. Look to one side and it is all bright. The contrasts shown up by water and stone under bright sunlight are shown here in locations very far apart. The misty sunlight as waves break on a rocky beach and the wind drives the mist inland, the contrast of bright sun on pale stonework, the rush of mountain water breaking into foam as it topples, all are hard to capture.
